Girl critically injured in scooter hit-and-run crash

MONTGOMERY, Texas — A Montgomery community is reeling after a 10-year-old girl was left in serious condition following a hit-and-run accident on Tuesday evening. The young victim, Ellee Hulse, remains hospitalized in the intensive care unit as state troopers continue their search for the driver responsible for the crash.

The incident occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m. on June 18 at the entrance to the Lake Conroe Hills subdivision near the intersection of Lake Conroe Hills Drive and FM 1097. According to family members, Ellee was riding her electric scooter near her home when she was struck by a vehicle that did not stop to render aid.

Jennifer Hulse, the girl's mother, provided a sobering update on her daughter’s condition, describing a litany of severe injuries sustained in the impact. Ellee suffered a broken pelvis, a fractured femur, and multiple injuries to her upper extremities, including a fractured elbow and wrist along with a dislocated shoulder. Additionally, doctors are monitoring significant internal trauma, including a lung contusion and a brain bleed coupled with swelling.

Ellee was transported to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, where she has already undergone surgery. As of Thursday, she remains stable but is under constant observation in the ICU.

Investigators with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) are treating the incident as a felony hit-and-run. Based on debris left at the scene and witness reports, officials are searching for a dark-colored SUV, believed to be a Chevrolet Tahoe or Suburban. The vehicle is expected to show noticeable damage to the front passenger side, specifically in the area of the headlight or fender.

Road safety advocates in the Montgomery area have noted that the stretch of FM 1097 near Lake Conroe Hills sees heavy commuter traffic, particularly during the evening hours. Residents have long voiced concerns regarding visibility and vehicle speeds near the subdivision entrance.

The Texas DPS is urging anyone who lives in the area and has home security or doorbell camera footage from the evening of June 18 to review their recordings for a dark SUV matching the description. Individuals with information regarding the driver’s identity or the location of the vehicle are encouraged to contact the Texas DPS Houston office or the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at 936-760-5800. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Montgomery County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-STOP.

A support fund has been established by the family to assist with mounting medical expenses. Updates on Ellee’s recovery are being shared by the family through local community groups, where neighbors have organized meal trains and vigils to support the Hulse family during this crisis.
